Riding an elephant is not as easy as it looks. You are perched high from the ground, the seat lurches and tips, and it feels as though there’s nothing to hang on to. At the same time, it’s an amazing experience, utterly unlike any other and quite thrilling. It feels simultaneously as though you’re part of a triumphal parade—and as though your life’s at stake.

So it is with teaching.
